A Traditional Mediterranean Iftar

An expansive eatery situated at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights, Sufra offers a Mediterranean themed Iftar that serves up delicious food in a relaxed ambiance, ideal for the entire family.

With one side dedicated to salads and cold mezze, there were two kinds of soups; chicken with freekeh and lentil. I loved the fact that fresh from the oven kuboos breads was being dished out to go along with the cold mezze, including hummus, moutabel, vine leaves, green beans salad, tabouleh, and a variety of olives and cheese on display. There was a live Saj cooking station with not only the option to customize a Nutella Saj.

Ouzi was par course, but there was a huge meat section to delight even the most fastidious carnivores, ranging from chicken and mushroom fillets, lamb kebobs, chicken shish taook, beef kebobs, and my favorite– the samak tahini, which was tender morsels of fish in creamy tahini sauce. The beef and okra stew was another big hit with us. Other dishes included kibbeh bin laban which was absolutely delicious as well as freshly made spinach fatayer and freshly made mini falafels to dip into the creamy tahini sauce. There was chicken chapsa, another hit with the kids, chicken tagine which had hints of Moroccan and went well with the couscous and so many others.

Desserts are as varied and some stand-outs included the Arabic mohalabia, Lintzer tarts, the raspberry cheesecake, a super chocolaty mud cake, and my all-time favorite fruit cake: a heavenly soft white sponge cake with lots of fruits and cream nestled in-between. There was also freshly baked Um Ali and super cheesy Kunafa, crisp on the outside and cheesy and warm on the inside. We also loved the fact that this Iftar had not only Arabic ghawa served at the table, but also a coffee tea and service to order lattes and cappuccinos.

The Verdict: Sufra is the ideal place to take family for a relaxed Iftar with a big variety of Arabic styled dishes.
