Tips for Getting Your Nails Back in Shape

Whether you have weak nails or brittle nails, there are some easy ways to keep your nails in good shape.

  • An easy way to keep your nails in perfect shape is to consume a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and avoid smoking.
  • Brittle nails can also be caused by old age, but often are caused by the overuse of solvents, such as acetone. Wear rubber gloves to protect your nails and apply a moisturizer daily.
  • At night, apply olive oil to your nails and wear cotton gloves to sleep.
  • Chronic stress can also inhibit nail growth.
  • Avoid biting or trimming your cuticles as cuticles serve a purpose of protecting us from environmental toxins and seal germs out of our body. Be sure to keep your cuticles amply moisturized and protected.
  • Be sure to only trim or file your nails when they are dry as wet nails are actually weaker. After your shower or having your nails in water, the nails should be completely dried with a towel.
  • Buffing the surface of your nails stimulates blood circulation to the area and enhances their growth.
  • If you notice sudden pigmentation on the nails, this could be a red flag of a potentially serious problem which may require the help of an expert.
