Making Fitness A Way of Life

fitnessJuggling a successful business is never easy; but add to the mix a passion for fitness and a talent for stand-up comedy…Meet Adnan Nalwala, Executive Director of Akar Technical Services and Al Ansari Group (Oman) who reveals how his dedication to fitness is the foundation for coping with all challenges in life.

THE START

“Fitness has always been a part of my life. From cricket in high school, playing squash regularly today to the relentless focus on fitness as a participant of Olympic Triathlon, I have prioritized health and wellness in order to stay competitive in everything I do. I strongly believe being healthy and physically fit has a direct correlation to happiness and success.”

WORK AND FITNESS CONNECTION

“First and foremost, summoning the discipline to stick with a fitness regime means drawing that energy into our lives in a holistic wayfrom home to boardroom.

Secondly, training for marathons and fitness goals requires one to fiercely push beyond their pain threshold, stretching to an extent that ‘comfort zone’ takes on a whole new definition. As a business leader, this
quality helps in facing tough challenges every day while maintaining clear mental focus on priorities.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF STAYING FIT

“Excessive weight, in many ways, conveys weakness or lack of control. As a business professional, projecting this
image could be damaging to your overall reputation. Health-wise, too, more and  more people are now suffering
from lower back problems, carpel tunnel syndrome, high blood pressure, and heart diseases-which is an outcome
of a sedentary lifestyle.”

COMEDY

Besides the business I run, I take some time out for comedy too. The latter is more out of passion and a hobby,
which has been a part of my life for the longest of time.As a kid, I was known for my impersonation skills, and was
called upon by teachers to regularly perform. This art also won a few awards in school such as Mr. Humorous from
the 11th graders and doing shows and gigs across India, Oman, and UAE. I believe it's gifted genes passed onto me
by my parents: my dad has an amazing sense of humor, while my mom has amazing impersonation skills. "
