MEDICAL TOURISM…
a growing trend
COVER STORY
SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL MAN HAS TRAVELLED FAR AND WIDE FOR HIS NEEDS. SOMETIMES THE NEED WAS FOOD,
SOMETIMES IT WAS SHELTER. COMMUNITIES LIKED TO LIVE CLOSER TO WATER AND HAVE EASY ACCESS TO FOOD.
HERBS AND SHRUBS WERE USED TO AID IN HEALING WOUNDS AND ILLNESS. PEOPLE KNEW OF MEDICINE MEN IN
THE TRIBE AND THE SICK WOULD TRAVEL MILES TO AN END TO BE CURED. THIS TRADITION OF TRAVEL FOR THE
PURPOSE OF HEALTH CONCERNS STILL REMAINS ONLY NOW THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY HAS PACKAGED IT UNDER
THE BEAUTIFUL AND WARM BLANKET OF ‘MEDICAL TOURISM’.
