On a world tour which includes Dubai for the first time, longstanding English rock band Uriah Heep visited Gulf Medical University on November 9th to greet excited fans and tour the premises. HEALTH spoke to the band members about their incredible energy and what healthy living means to them.
An English rock band formed in London in 1969, Uriah Heep has a long rooted history of writing their own lyrics and performing live on stage. In fact, 12 of the band’s albums have reached the UK Albums Chart and in the late 1970s, Uriah Heep was extremely successful in Germany with their single–Lady in Black. Synonymous with other big names including Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin, the band scored huge successes throughout their illustrious career.
Lead singer Bernie Shaw describes their music as melodious rock. He explains, “We tend to write songs with good melody, strong energy, and interesting lyrics. In fact, this is what we have been doing since 1970 and it has always worked.”
Impact of Social Media to Music
Admittedly, now social media has a huge role to play in music. Shaw points out, “It was very different to the olden days where we relied on other means to interact with our audiences. It’s actually a good thing as there is so much more interaction now at a faster pace.”
Simply put, our energy levels come from the passion for what we do, tells Shaw. “We take care of ourselves and have been in this business for 45 years so it is important we take care. Moderation for us as a band is a key word, but we aren’t always successful with it. We do always strive for it though.”
This means absolutely everything to Uriah Heep, narrates Shaw. “Not only as a band, but with family too. You must take care of yourself; have fun, but always remember that boundaries should be in place and should be observed.”
