University Hospital Sharjah opens its new center “Himchan-UHS Spine and Joint”

University Hospital Sharjah announced today the opening of “Himchan-UHS Spine and Joint Center” at UHS, where, Dr Seung Jun Park, MD, Consultant Orthopedics and Dr Dae Won Cho, MD, Consultant Spine Surgeon, have joined and started operating along with their expert team at UHS premises to offer spine and joint treatment to UHS patients.

Going forward, the next phase of development will oversee UHS introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) driven robotic machine to perform surgeries as well as launch a rehab center for quick recovery from join and spine pain. In addition, UHS will also introduce endoscopic spine surgeries, which leaves only less than 1cm of surgical wound, thereby adding value to healthcare services.

Dr Park has an extensive experience in the field of Orthopedics, successfully completing over 9000 surgeries and procedures in last 10 years in Korea. His key areas of focus include orthopedics cases including manual and computer navigation total knee replacement arthroplasty, knee arthroscopic surgery, arthritis management, ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair, meniscus transplantation and osteotomy procedures, among many others. Similarly, Dr Dae Won Cho specialises in the field of spine surgeries including minimally invasive spine surgeries (MISS). His key areas of interest include Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy (PELD), Percutaneous Endoscopic Cervical Foraminotomy and Discectomy (PECFD), Percutaneous Endoscopic Laminotomy, Flavectomy and Discectomy, Open Lumbar Micro-Discectomy (OLM) including Unidirectional Bilateral Foraminotomy (UBF), Lumbar Fusion Surgeries and other surgical and non-surgical procedures.

This collaboration between UHS and Himchan will make Sharjah and the UAE a central hub for spine and joint treatments for people from the country and around the region.
