state-of-the-art technology at GITEX 2018

New approaches aimed at promoting Abu Dhabi as a major tourist destination

Abu Dhabi, 15 October 2018: The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced a range of interactive channels and technological additions during GITEX Technology Week 2018, which will help promote Abu Dhabi as a tourism destination.

The region’s largest show dedicated to technology, the 38th edition of GITEX, sees investors, industry leaders and technology enthusiasts convene at an event which explores the latest solutions in AI, blockchain, robotics, cloud technology and other new trends. Featuring more than 4,500 exhibitors from more than 100 countries, this year’s edition is the largest ever to date.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The application of technology continues to foster a change in every field, including the tourism and culture sectors. By adopting new technologies, DCT Abu Dhabi continues to maintain its commitment to extending unparalleled services to Abu Dhabi’s residents and visitors , immersing and inspiring them to even more fulfilling experiences in the emirate.”

In line with the exhibition’s four highlighted segments – Smart Cities, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, Internet of Things and Smart Manufacturing – DCT Abu Dhabi hosted a range of activities which included the launch of new services via portals that simplify administrative processes for businesses based in the emirate. The Inspection App, dedicated to hotel establishments in Abu Dhabi, allows businesses to manage inspection and classification processes swiftly, while the Event Licensing App, a holistic registration platform, provides capability for relevant entities to streamline, facilitate and collate event registration and licensing procedures.
For residents keen on joining the tourism sector, the Tourism Industry Training and Tourist Guide mobile app outlines a course offering practical and theoretical training up to international standards. The course will be open to all English-speaking residents aged 18 and above and applicants who are currently students, employees, job-seekers or unemployed.

Another addition is the Culture Portal and Mobile App, a new portal designed to promote the wealth of Abu Dhabi’s cultural heritage. The app element of this portal features comprehensive details on tangible and intangible heritage, visual and performing arts programmes and museum activities, and is aimed at residents and visitors keen on discovering Abu Dhabi’s culture.

DCT Abu Dhabi also announced the launch of Galaxy Heroes, a digital game based on the Help Desk System using the concept of Gamification. The initiative aims to motivate DCT employees in providing the best support for customer service requests.

As part of its interactive channels, DCT Abu Dhabi also introduced Murshed, the DCT Smart Assistant. In addition to Hive 16, a virtual reality technology command and control room and a holistic platform for DCT Abu Dhabi’s statistical data.

The 38th GITEX Technology Week is being held at Dubai World Trade Centre from October 14th until 18th.
