he beginning of a new year is a great
time to get your priorities in order and to
set goals for the entire year. I wish all our
readers a very happy and a prosperous
2015.
Success does indeed come frequently,
but I know that it does not come ‘easily’
- it comes because of the hard work and
thoughtful endeavors. The University
remains resolute in its vision for the
future. As you can see, this is not only
an inspiring, but also a transformative
time at Gulf Medical University, which is
transiting from an academic to a research
based institution.
His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al
Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council,
UAE and Ruler of Ajman conferred the
degrees on 90 graduates including 6
students from Master’s Programs of
Gulf Medical University during the 11th
GMU Convocation that was held on 19th
November 2014 at Ajman Kempinski
Hotel & Resort. The ceremony was graced

Grounds recently. The 1st Doctors Meet
and a Seminar on Recent Trends in
Medicine were also organized at the
Thumbay Hospital Dubai, which was
attended by over 2000 persons including
800 doctors.

the 3rd Annual Conference on Diabetes
and Endocrinology, which was attended
by more than 230 delegates. Leading
endocrinologists from all over UAE were
awarded a Special Award of Honor and
Recognition by HE Hamad Taryam Al
Shamsi, Director Ajman Medical District
Ministry of Health UAE.

Walkathon to mark World Diabetes Day.
More than 700 students from various
schools, universities and Ajman Police
participated in the walk.
We are pleased to announce that Gulf
Medical University will be hosting the 2nd
Annual Conference on Innovative Ideas
& Strategies for Long-Term Growth and
Success from Leaders in the Insurance
Industry on 5th February 2015 at Thumbay
Hospital Grounds in Dubai, Thumbay Labs
(Center for Advanced Biomedical Research
and Innovation) will be organizing an
International Conference on Research
in March 2015. Center for Advanced
Simulation in Healthcare is also planning
to host an International Conference on
Clinical Skills and Simulation in Medical
Education in April 2015. The event is
being planned to be held in association
with SESAM (Society in Europe for
Simulation Applied to Medicine). A formal
announcement will be made soon.
Medtronic META FZ-LLC and Stryker ESCS
BV - Dubai Branch, have announced their
Cadaveric Workshops to be held in March
and April 2015 at the Center for Surgical
and Bio-skillWorkshops at GMU. Cadaveric
workshops on Spine will be held in GMU as
part of the 16th Dubai Spine Conference
being held on 9th & 10th April in Dubai.
The Ajman Healthcare Summit is drawing
a good response and we invite companies
and organizations to partner with us to
make the event a big success.
The Thumbay Foundation has announced
initial grants worth AED 250000 towards
medical research for GMU faculty and
students. This programme provides seed
money to support bio-medical science,
translational or clinical research projects.
A great initiative by the Thumbay Group
Human Resource department, who as part
of the employee engagement program
organized ‘Thumbay Olympics’ from 7-11
December 2014 was a big success. Out of
the 3000 employees in Thumbay group,
over 1000 have participated 14 different
sports, with more than 145 successive
events were conducted at GMU sport
ground and Body & Soul. More than 1000
man heads participated in successive
events.
