Gulf Medical University is embark-

ing upon a journey heading towards

the New Year. And as it does, it brings

with it the experience of over 17 years

of growth, progress, service, and qual-

ity education. The last few years have

been particularly exciting, gratifying,

and successful in our quest to fulfill the

institution’s mission, and the next few

years are filled with resounding prom-

ise. We look forward with anticipation

to the New Year, continuing a tradition

of growth, progress, and high quality

service, within our vibrant and dynamic

group.

I am delighted that His Highness Sheikh

Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member

of the Supreme Council UAE and Ruler

of Ajman, lauded our efforts to con-

struct a purpose built 300 bed new hos-

pital in our campus. The construction of

the new GMU Hospital will begin this

November and completion is expected

by 2017/18. I am thankful to His High-

ness for encouraging us to expand our

facilities and services to offer high qual-

ity healthcare and education in the re-

gion.

Bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of

Umm Al Quwain inaugurated Thum-

bay Clinic in Umm Al Quwain. Thumbay

Clinics in other emirates have been well

appreciated and patronized for very af-

fordable and high quality services.

Furthermore,189 students from 31 na-

tionalities were initiated into the GMU

programs during the White Coat Cer-

emony held on the campus.

I am pleased to inform our readers that

our Director Finance and Budget, Mr.

Nazeer Hussain Patayath has won the

prestigious Revolutionary CFO Award

which was presented during the CFO

Strategies Forum held in Dubai. I wish to

congratulate him and his team for this

achievement.

I was happy to share my experiences by

addressing a massive gathering of 6000

people at the“Vibrant Business Summit”

held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, India,

organized along the lines of the Vibrant

Gujarat Summit. I was also invited to de-

liver a talk at Asia’s leading education

event - EduCon Asia in Singapore.

Thumbay Group’s network of Thum-

bay/GMC hospitals in the UAE has been

awarded the prestigious ‘Medical Travel

Quality Alliance’ for excellence in medi-

cal tourism. The certificate, conferred

after a review of the hospital’s facilities,

cited that the hospital meets ‘the inter-

national standard of excellence for care

and services to international patients

and medical travelers’. The award was

received by Mr. Akbar Moideen Thum-

bay, Vice President of the Healthcare

Division of Thumbay Group and Dr.

Benazir Ameer Ali, Director of Thumbay

International Medical and Health Tour-

ism Department, fromMs. JulieW. Mon-

roe, President - Medical Travel Quality

Alliance.

I am very happy to inform our readers

that the Thumbay Healthcare & Retail

Division and Thumbay Hospitality Di-

vision signed an MoU to foray into the

Indian markets by launching the Blends

and Brews Coffee Shop in Hyderabad,

India. The outlet will open in our new

hospital. Thumbay Pharmacy is also set-

ting up its first overseas outlet in the

Hyderabad hospital. I wish both the di-

visions much success in their expansion

plans.

Medical Education Unit GMU has or-

ganized a series of workshops on ‘Small

Group Teaching & Learning’ for clini-

cal faculty members and professional

staff of all our group hospitals and al-

lied teaching hospitals. As part of the

series, a workshop on Orientation to

Integrated MBBS Curriculum and Use

of Electronic Log of Patient Encounters

and Clinical Procedures was held in Abu

Dhabi for faculty members from Mafraq

Hospital, Abu Dhabi.

The Center for Advanced Simulation in

Healthcare will be organizing the ‘Med-

Sim Winter Olympics’ for students from

various medical colleges from all over

the region. I wish them success in this

first of its kind event in the entire re-

gion. Health Communications Division

has planned for a series of conferences

and workshops which will be updated

through our website.

Thumbay Group, UAE conducted an

Award Ceremony to acknowledge

outstanding performers from its staff

across 12 sectors, at Gulf Medical Uni-

versity campus, Ajman. I wish to thank

all of my employees for their efforts, and

encourage them to work hard in build-

ing Thumbay Group as an iconic inter-

national brand in the future.
