Q:

Whenever I eat nuts or eggs, I feel nauseated.

What could be reason?

For: Dr. Salwa, Professor & Consultant Internal Medicine responds:

“Developing nausea whenever consuming eggs or nuts after about half

an hour with waves of nausea for about 10 minutes without vomiting

can be caused by food allergy to these foods. However this needs to

be confirmed by allergy tests, for example using skin allergy tests,

Radioallergosorbent Tests (RAST), and food challenge tests. For the cure, it

is essential to know your age since in a young age; the condition is usually

grown out. In adults, it depends on the mechanisms and final diagnosis.”

Q:

I grind my teeth at night; is there a solution to this

problem? It leaves me with a headache and is also wearing

of my teeth down. Please advise.

Dr. Danavanthi S. Bangera, Dental Surgeon, responds: “Yes, certainly there

is a solution for grinding of the teeth; which is known as bruxism. Teeth

grinding can be caused by stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, missing teeth

or traumatic bite. Symptoms usually include dull headache, painful jaws,

wearing or chipping of teeth. You must certainly visit your dentist. He can

properly and professionally fit you with a mouth guard or night guard to

protect your teeth during sleep. The dentist will also advise you to seek

dental treatment in case of missing teeth or traumatic bite or any other

dental causes. In some cases, if stress is the cause you need to consult your

physician as well.”
