The university is a dynamic, exciting,

and stimulating place to be. Our

faculty and staff continue to provide

leadership in areas of high quality

teaching, training, and healthcare

services in the country. Our students

are making a positive difference in

many areas.

Wearehappy to informour readers that

the Center for Advanced Biomedical

Research and Innovation (CABRI) has

received its accreditation from the

College of American Pathologists

(CAP), a much coveted credential

that positions CABRI as a high quality

specialty pathology laboratory. I

am also delighted to inform that in

order to support medical research,

the Thumbay Foundation will offer a

research grant of 10 million Dirhams

over the next 6 years to encourage

researchers to conduct medical

research and innovation of the highest

scientific caliber.

Center for Advanced Simulation

in Healthcare had organized a

Simulation Conference and for the

first time in the entire region, they

have organized MedSim Olympics.

His Excellency Dr. Yousuf Al Serkal,

Assistant Undersecretary, Hospital

Affairs, Ministry of Health, was the

chief guest on the occasion. We had a

very good response for the event. We

are planning to make this a regional

event next year and invite participants

from all over the GCC countries.

Under my leadership, we have formed

and had the first meeting of the

External Advisory Board for C.A.S.H.

International experts such as Prof. Tim

Kristensen, University of Copenhagen,

Prof. Robert O’Brien, University of

Melbourne, Prof. Guillaume Alinier,

University of Hertfordshire UK, Ms.

Carrie Hamilton, University Hospital

Southampton

NHS

Foundation

Trust, Mr. Sameer Shariff, Founder

& CEO, Impelsys Inc. USA, GMU

Provost Prof. Gita Ashok Raj and Mr.

Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Director

Healthcare Thumbay Group UAE,

attended the meeting. Prof. Manda

Venkatramana, Director and Dr. Erum

Khan represented CASH.

We had important delegations from

Poland and Netherlands visit our

institution. High officials from the

Medical University of Lublin Poland,

Prof. Wojciech Zaluska, Dean of II

Faculty of Medicine with English

Division, and Dr. Kamil Torres,

Specialist for Medical Education in

English, visited the campus to initiate a

dialogue for joint events and programs.

A high level delegation from Health-

Holland, a Dutch government body,

visited our university and discussed

joint cooperation for research, a

collaborative medical degree program,

summer

training

program,

and

development of short term courses

with the academic leadership of Gulf

Medical University.

Our newly opened Thumbay Hospital

in Dubai, as part of its corporate social

responsibility, is regularly organizing

health camps for various local and

national associations to benefit the

people. The Dental Hospital is one of

the largest dental service providers

in the country, offering high quality,

specialty services in dentistry.

The Health Communications Division

organized the 7th Annual Dental

Conference and cadaver workshops

which were held by NeuroSpinal

Hospital and Stryker ESCS BV - Dubai

Branch of Stryker ESCS BV Netherlands.

The GMU GMCH annual global ethnic

day was organized by the students

with great fanfare and enthusiasm. The

14th edition of the week long GMU

Sports Festival was organized by the

University. This year we witnessed a

large participation by students from

over 21 colleges from all over the

country. I wish to congratulate the

sports committee for the success of

the event.

As we enter into the summer months,

please take care of your health and I

wish all our readers’ happy and healthy

times ahead. I will interact with you in

my next edition during the Holy Month
