A new academic year has
begun with a fresh batch of
students entering the por-
tals of the university - car-
rying with them a dream
of becoming world-class
healthcare professionals. To
all the newcomers, I extend
a warm welcome. They are
about to become part of
the long and distinguished
tradition that our university
has worked towards over
the last 18 years.
To give the new students a great beginning, Chief Guest
Prof. Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, Provost-College of Health Scienc-
es, University of Ghana (Ghana) along with myself (Thum-
bay Moideen, Founder President and Chairman, Board of
Governors), and Gulf Medical University. Prof. Gita Ashok
Raj, Provost of the Gulf Medical University, initiated 258 stu-
dents into healthcare professions at the university during
the White Coat Ceremony.
We are proud to announce that our network of academic
hospitals have received JCI accreditation. Thumbay Hos-
pitals in Ajman, Dubai, and Fujairah have all been highly
appreciated for their professional standards. As part of our
continued inter-institutional cooperation with leading uni-
versities, we are in dialogue with leading international insti-
tutions, which will be announced soon.
The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University has re-
ceived permission to offer an Internship Training Program
to the graduates of Dentistry from Gulf Medical University
and other institutions. The Dental Internship will be offered
in three leading dental centers in Thumbay Hospitals in
Dubai, Ajman, and Sharjah. The training will be provided
under the supervision of dental consultants and specialists.
It is open to students from other institutions also.
The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai
has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
the UAE- based Health magazine to support and promote
the ‘Annual Health Awards,’ the first edition of which will be
held in Dubai on January 2017. We have received tremen-
dous response with over 500 doctors and institutions ap-
plying for various categories of awards.
The Gulf Medical University (Ajman), in association with
the Department of Anesthesia, Thumbay Hospital, con-
ducted the ‘National Conference on Updates in Anes-
thesia’ at The Ajman Saray Hotel, Ajman to mark World
Anesthesia Day.
The Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare, GMU
has organized the 2nd Annual GulfSim Conference
and MedSim Olympics. Speakers from Scotland, Qatar,
Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and UAE delivered state-of-the
art lectures. CASH is a leading center for simulation in
the region, which has tied up with the Royal College of
Physicians of Edinburgh, UK to deliver the latter’s online
education programs.
The Thumbay Hospitals network and Thumbay Clinics
have joined hands with Dubai Police, Cars Taxi, Pink Car-
avan, and Friends of Cancer Patients to launch a breast
cancer awareness initiative ‘Pink Drive’. We had a great
response to the events held in Dubai, Ajman, and Fu-
jairah.
Thumbay Medical Tourism (TMT) was presented the ‘In-
ternational Excellence Center of the Year’ award at the
3rd International Indian Medical Tourism Conference
(IIMTC) in Hyderabad, India. TMT will be hosting the 3rd
Annual Medical Tourism Conference in Dubai on No-
vember 2016.
I am honored to be invited as a keynote speaker at the
Sharjah FDI forum to share my insights on how innova-
tions are expanding the healthcare industry’s access to
quality care and driving a positive impact at an extraor-
dinary speed.
We are happy to inform that Mohammed Azharuddin,
the legendary cricketer and former captain of the Indian
cricket team, inaugurated the‘Body & Soul Cricket Acad-
emy’ at the Club in Al Jurf, Ajman. Popular Indian actor
and model Sonu Sood visited Thumbay Clinic, Dubai to
participate in the first anniversary celebrations of the
clinic. Pakistani model turned TV actor Ahsan Khan vis-
ited the Thumbay Medical & Dental Specialty Centre –
Sharjah to celebrate the center’s fifth anniversary.
I wish to once again thank all our well-wishers, students,
parents, and our staff for their constant support in all
our endeavors.
