The Tape-In hair extensions used
at the Marquee Salon are one
hundred percent human hair
which Theresa explained are
treated exactly as your own hair
once they are put in. Shampoo,
condition, curl or straighten,
the hair blends so well that you
forget you are wearing them. The
best part about the Tape-in hair
extensions is they are so much
kinder to the hair than the bonded
extensions and can be re-used
again. Also because the tape sits
flat against the crown of the head,
these are very natural looking and
hair can be styled in a ponytail or
bun without any tell-tale bonds
showing.
The first step is a mandatory
consultation in which the stylist
will check and match the exact

shade of your hair to the number
of hair extension pieces required,
depending on if you want volume,
length or both. With my hair
being a cool ash tone with subtle
highlights, Theresa had carefully
selected two different shades of
hair extensions to give the same
effect as the overall color of my
hair. After the color is finalized
and the hair is selected, my hair
was carefully washed, blow-
dried, straightened. Theresa
explained that normally around
40 to 50 pieces of hair extensions
sandwiched with our own hair
are used to create both length
and volume. After sectioning
my hair, she took a large section,
leaving one centimeter around the
entire hairline to allow the client
to be able to tie her hair up, and
sandwiched a section of natural
hair in-between the two hair
extensions. Using the straightening
iron, she welded the tape using
heat to my hair. The entire head
took about one and half hours
and once all of the strands were
applied, Theresa then flat ironed
my entire head of hair to blend
the look. Next she trimmed the
extensions and cut here and there
to create a very blended and
natural look.
These, tells Abrahams, can be worn
up to about six weeks depending
on how well you take care of
them. To remove the extensions,
you have to return to the salon
where she will spray a solution
on that will
dissolve the
tape and open
the extension
“sandwich” and
then remove
the hair. You
can reuse the
hair two to
three times
for a total of
six months
to a year. It
does need to
be reinstalled
every two to
three months,
depending
on how much
you work out,
shampoo your
hair, sweat, and
general wear
and tear.
Results:
I was excited to
see that my flat and thinning
natural hair was instantly
transformed in so little time.
My hair looked thick, long and
healthy! The best part about
these is that they don’t damage
your own hair and can be
removed and re-used.
Long and silky hair is
probably every girl’s
dreamyet with the
climate, chemicals, and
the water, many of are
actually suffering from
thinning, lackluster
hair. To help out and
completely solve
this problem, I met
with stylist Theresa
Abrahams at the
Marquee Salon in The
Lakes to get the hair I
always wanted.
