3 Trending Super Foods for 2018

Are you hoping to make 2018 your strongest and healthiest year yet? Wondering which super foods will take over the stores? The new alternatives, though they sound a little strange, claim to offer numerous health benefits and are, of course, environmentally sustainable.

Insect-based Protein Powders
Insect-based Protein Powders such as crickets are being hailed as a complete nutrition, with 69 percent protein. Since 2003, FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) has been working on topics pertaining to edible insects in many countries worldwide. Insects are healthy and nutritious alternatives to mainstream staples such as chicken, beef, and even fish. Cricket protein powder, comes packed with vitamins and minerals. They’re very, very nutritious and have as much calcium as dairy, vitamin B12, and iron; all common nutrients which we can become deficient in.

Edible Bentonite Clays
Edible Bentonite Clays, which are thought to have detox and healing properties, may also be popular in 2018. On top of being able to draw-out toxins from the body, the clay itself has a range of nutrients. According to studies from the the National Institute of Health, Bentonite clay is known to have an abundance of minerals, including calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron, and potassium. It improves the gut immunity, relieves constipation, as well as IBS, and when ingested into the body, via drink form or by eating; the clay and its inherent vitamins and minerals is absorbed similarly to any supplement. However, it is important to note that it should only be taken under the prescription of a health professional.

3 Edible Botanical Flowers
Edible petals are making their way from the high-end eateries to your dining room. Elderflower, rose, and lavender are taking over your cocktails smoothie bowls. When infused in tea or a liquid extract, the gorgeoushibiscus flower is filled with incredible health properties, lowering high blood pressure, easing stomachaches, and even having the potential to aid in weight loss.
