5 Tips for Improving Posture

Good posture not only makes you look composed and professional, it also helps you have more energy and improved well-being. On the contrary, poor posture is associated with various health problems.

Improving your posture can help prevent or reverse many issues. Correcting bad posture will take some time and effort, but being healthier and having a better quality of life are worth it.

  • Exercise regularly. Being active will strengthen your muscles, which in turn will help promote good posture and prevent injury. You may want to try are walking, cycling, swimming, and strength exercises.
  • Change positions often. You’re more likely to slouch as your muscles get tired. Get up and move frequently to stop yourself from slumping into poor posture.
  • Wear supportive shoes. Posture suffers in high-heeled shoes. If you stand for long periods, be sure to wear footwear that is suitable for the task. In addition, you can use insoles, orthotics, a footrest, or a rubber mat to increase comfort.
  • Opt for posture-friendly products. These include ergonomic office chairs, bags that minimize back strain, lumbar back supports, footrests, and proper eyewear—anything that support or influences good posture.
  • Do bridges upon waking or before bed. Bridges are great for opening the chest and strengthening the back. To start, lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet resting on the mat or mattress. Slowly lift your buttocks and spine until your weight is on your shoulder blades. Pause, and then slowly roll back down to the starting position.
