6 Sneaky Ways to Get Some Exercise when You Feel Lazy this Winter

Winter can be hard for staying motivated. So it’s no surprise most people might feel their health deteriorated or stagnant before the spring sunshine kicks us off the sofa again.

So, how can you trick your brain and exercise this winter even when you are feeling lazy? Here are six sneaky ways to get some activity into your life and go through this winter feeling like a champion.

1. Watch your favourite show only at the gym
Do you have a new favorite TV show? Make a pact with yourself that you’re only allowed to watch it at the gym or while working out at home. If you want to know what happened in the next episode, you just have to jump on that treadmill and buckle up. Watching a show on a tablet or the phone is easy and it can give you the motivation to do the cardio training or to even try spinning.

2. Register for a running challenge
Sometimes all you need is a bit of pressure to stay motivated. Dubai has a number of events with the desert run one of the funniest – you could join up with the March run and get training right now. You can find more information at DubaiRunning.com.

3. Journal your success for boost in motivation
Each time you do some exercise, take a moment to write down how you feel. You’ll probably feel good right after it and these little texts can be a powerful motivation when you’re feeling lazy. When you look at yourself feeling good and sweating it out, the couch and those snacks probably don’t feel as appealing any longer.

4. Pick up photography to spend more time outdoors
You might not think photography can get you exercising but it can. If you take up this hobby with the idea that you’ll spend more time outdoors, you will soon notice yourself walking more. You could start taking nature pictures, walking about in the desert or the beach or you might become a street photographer, scouting the Dubai streets for the right shot. All this while having a lot of fun, too!

5. Keep your gym bag ready at the door to stop excuses
Sometimes we’re good at making excuses when it comes to getting to the gym. If you have two gym bags full of equipment, with one always ready by the door, you have fewer excuses to make. Not to mention, having that gym bag remind you of what you should be doing every time you leave the house can be enough to motivate you to move. If you need some extra motivation, you can refresh your gym bag with some new clothing this winter. Having a new set of clothing can always add a little more spring to your step!

6. Refresh your workout playlist to avoid boredom
Music can help you stay more active and to stay motivated to move. Even if you don’t have time to leave the house, turning up the music can help you dance and burn a few more calories. The trick is to pick upbeat music and to keep refreshing your playlist to ensure you don’t keep listening to the same tunes. If you want, you can find plenty of suggestions online as well – you might even want to share your own favourite tunes with others!
