An Authentic Peruvian Iftar in the Heart of Dubai

A hip eatery located in the heart of City Walk 2, LIMA Dubai is a continuation of LIMA in London which is the first Peruvian restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star. Moreover, LIMA Dubai itself is the recipient of Time Out’s award for the Best Peruvian restaurant in Dubai. With both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a double story dining area, this Iftar menu served up authentic Peruvian food for each course with some dishes served individually and some for sharing.

After opening our fast with a platter of dates, we enjoyed a warm basket of assorted home-baked breads– chia seed, olive, and potato, served with a delectable Peruvian sauce made of tomatoes and chili. Next, the Peruvian pumpkin soup, garnished with pumpkin chips was very soothing, especially after fasting, and had a slightly sweet, rustic flavor. Pumpkin, we were told, plays a key role in Peruvian cuisine and featured in several of the dishes here.

This was followed by individual bowls of Salmon ceviche which was as fresh as ceviche comes and was tender, mildly tangy, and packed with flavor. The Solterito was a salad with mix of vegetables, including corn and was a refreshing crunchy option. And to share, we had Chicken Causa which had a creamy texture and was plated beautifully with avocado mayonnaise and a crispy netting of pumpkin.

Our mains started with Lamb Rack and Peruvian Pumpkin Loche which was a tender lamb rack with an emerald green sauce made of butternut, aji panka, Marisol, and Aji Amarillo. It was superb and the pumpkin was a lovely complement to the tender meat. The second main was the Chicken and Duck Chaufa rice– a delectable, almost Chinese fried rice style dish, but far more meatier and tasty. The duck flavors were more understated here and the entire dish had a nice satisfying flavor.

This was accompanied by Corn Brule, a creamy side dish along with something we had never tried before; Pastel de Papa, a cake-like bread served with mains that went really well with the meats.

There is always room for dessert and LIMA’s Iftar menu includes a luscious Peruvian Suspiro which is actually dulce de leche meringue with custard and ice-cream and is an absolutely delicious way to end this authentic Iftar.

The Verdict: LIMA prides itself on serving authentic Peruvian food and during Ramadan, is no exception. With the freshest ingredients and no additives, this is a wonderful place to take your family for a Peruvian Iftar.
