It’s not something we give much thought to during Ramadan, but oral hygiene could take a backseat as we are busy in the shifts of daily routine and habits. The following are some practical tips to help you maintain your oral health during the holy month.
Avoid dehydrating ingredients such as caffeine and excess salt and reduce your intake of sugar.
Practice brushing and flossing your teeth after your meals at Iftar and Suhoor.
Try to avoid sticky foods, such as chocolate, some types of cereals and cheese.
Clean your teeth with a Miswak stick – the soft bristles on either end of the twig can be used to clean the teeth.
Use a tongue scraper or a cleaner to get rid of the white residue that coats the tongue.
Include a toothpaste with fluoride twice daily asfluoride boosts the strength of the teeth and prevents from demineralization or cavity formation.
Be sure to increase your water intake both at Iftar time and Suhoor time.
