An Unforgettable Iftar Experience by the Sea

The Fayrouz tent at the Fairmont Hotel in Ajman has to be one of the most beautifully ethereal spaces that offer a Mediterranean/Levantine Iftar. With both private dining rooms and other seating, we sat facing the cascading waves under this space.

Here you are spoiled for choice with the massive variety of dishes set out in self-serve buffet style. On one side are Levantine style salads and cold mezze section from which I enjoyed my favorite muhammara and mujadadhara. There was also all kinds of pickles, beetroot hummus, which was delicious, moutabel, baba ganoush, fattoush, potato hariri, and the list goes on.

From the other Turkish and Western salads, I enjoyed the Acili Ezme as well as the ample assortment of cheeses to go along with the freshly baked breads on display. And to my surprise (and delight) there was fresh sushi, always a favorite with my family.

There was a live Saj cooking station where the chef was cooking up customized Iskender kebobs. I enjoyed my Saj with cheese and zaatar while the kids enjoyed traditional Iskender with meat.

There were two kinds of soup; lentil and a delicious Emirati egg and oats soup. There was a live pasta cooking station serving up made-to–order pasta. Next, we headed towards the mains starting with the Ouzi platter which was one of the biggest I had seen and served with breaded boiled eggs, roasted lamb, and the flavored rice pilaf. The harees was very soothing and there was nice cheesy eggplant moussaka also as well a seafood offering with baked fish fillets and mussels. The other side had some Eastern favorites including my favorite green Thai chicken curry which I enjoyed with steamed and fragrant jasmine rice.

Desserts here are just as impressive with my first stop at the live crepe station where we enjoyed hot off the griddle crepes filled with Nutella. The homemade ice-cream was really a standout also; with the Um Ali and Baklava ice creams being my favorite. Other desserts included Molten chocolate pudding, Um Ali, walnut tart, chocolate devil cake, French black forest custard, lots of fresh fruit slices, basboussa, and mixed mamoul, to name a few.

The Verdict: The Fayrouz tent never fails to impress and is much more than delicious food, but rather, a beautiful experience situated at one of the most scenic places in the Northern Emirates. Visit: Fayrouz Tent at Fairmont Ajman
