Use a high-quality eye cream

The easiest way to continue to keep the skin around the eyes as youthful as can be, is to moisturise daily, using an excellent eye cream. As we age, the skin loses its elasticity and the natural collagen decreases, which is why choosing a high-quality anti-ageing cream with natural ingredients can help slow down this process.

Protect eyes properly

Investing in a pair of good quality sunglasses, which have the ability to block out 100% of the
sun’s UV rays is essential, as UV rays can easily damage the skin around the eye area. Squinting to avoid eye strain from the sun also causes crow’s feet and fine lines, making you appear older.

Moreover, if you spend a significant amount of time sitting behind a screen, it’s a good idea to practice the 20-20-20 rule – that is, focusing on something 20 feet away, for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes. This helps to give your eyes some much-needed rest, reducing the effects of digital eye strain.

Practice healthy habits

Getting a solid 7-8 hours of sleep each night is recommended for most adults, as those who are not well-rested tend to appear tired, and often notice the presence of unattractive dark-circles, puffiness and eye bags.

Likewise, eating a healthy, balanced diet and getting the right amount of exercise regularly, is extremely beneficial. Certain “superfoods” have nutritious, eye-health-boosting qualities, such as leafy green vegetables, carrots, papaya, eggs, berries, cold-water fish and more.

Teabags help reduce redness

Teabags are known to help reduce puffiness, since they have some anti-inflammatory properties which work to minimise swelling and redness, while soothing the skin. Ensure teabags are cool when they touch the skin to avoid burning –refrigerating for 30 minutes beforehand is wise.
