Give Your Skin a Break

Most of us load up on serums, creams, SPF, and the like every morning and evening. Yet sometimes, and as scary as it sounds, it’s good to shake things up a bit and just leave the skin alone. Koko Hayashi, Founder & CEO at Mirai Clinical and Skin Fit Gym in Los Angeles, California teaches how to do apply Japanese skin fasting to your routine for amazing skin.

Less is More

Japanese skincare espouses that the less skincare products you use, the healthier your skin will be in the long run. As skin has the ability to rejuvenate itself, skin care should be minimal to naturally encourage your skin’s own rejuvenation process.

Skin Fasting

The term skin fasting means skipping skincare creams at night—before going to sleep—then in the morning, simply splash with water to help maintain the skin’s natural oils on the skin. By not applying anything to the skin, your skin will work from within itself to produce enough moisture. When you apply too many skin care products, the skin becomes too lazy to produce its own moisture and oils.

Results

For many of us who are addicted to our 10-step skincare regimes, the thought of doing this is daunting. But according to fans of skin fasting, eventually, the skin becomes stronger, so you will need less skincare products. Start with just one day a week and bump it up to two days a week. In the case of very dry, faking, or chafing skin, you should always apply some moisturizer to these areas.
