With a shared passion for merging exercise with parenting, both Nicola Holmes and Lara Sweida-Metwally assert that working out as a family is a positive and fun experience. Their brainchild— The Buggy Run™—enables the entire family to jump the fitness bandwagon. Here’s how it all began…

The Inspiration

Nicola: “Our story really is quite simple: we’re two women who have always loved fitness and became mums somewhere along the way. Whilst sport has always been a part of our lives, we only recently became ‘keen runners’ and took our first steps that soon became our first miles.  In 2015, we took the plunge and signed up for a 10k challenge, then a half marathon, then finally a full marathon.”

Reasons   

Lara: “Being moms, it isn’t always easy to find time, so we started taking our daughters with us. Running with them is something we both grew to love and somewhere along the way, we even got our husbands involved…making it very much a family affair!”

The Gap

Nicola: “When researching events we could train for, we realized there was a real gap for a community-focused, fitness event for whole families, and so The Buggy Run™ was born! Our aim is to show that being parents and fitness enthusiasts are far from mutually exclusive. We want parents to realize they can work-out AND spend quality time as a family. Don’t worry if you’ve never run before, the event is open to all levels with a focus on Making Fitness Fun.”

The Buggy Run™ Makes Its Debut on February 11

Bringing families’ together and encouraging fitness –The Buggy Run™ is an untimed 2.5km and 5km run with buggies taking place on February 11 at Dubai Motor City’s Dubai Autodrome. The Buggy Run™ Dubai follows in the footsteps of cities around the world, where buggy-based fitness is becoming a major exercise and lifestyle trend. Targeting beginners through to seasoned runners, The Buggy Run™ will also be incorporating post-race entertainment to ensure that this is a day for the whole family, with the chance to win prizes provided by leading brands Mountain Buggy, Urban Energy, and the Autodrome. Participants can even run the race as a relay, meaning everyone can take part, regardless of age or fitness level.
