Dim Sums and a Whole Lot More…

An eatery with locations in London, China, and Hong Kong, Royal China’s only Dubai based eatery has been located in DIFC for the past seven years. And it’s not often you can find really good quality Chinese food with an upmarket, sophisticated ambiance, but this venue ticked all the right boxes and more.

Edgy, but sophisticated, the interiors played cleverly with red lighting, black walls, and dark colors. We were served kimchi and boiled peanuts as pre-starters to nibble on. A place known for their assorted dim sums, ours were steamed, with an assortment of prawn, chicken and coriander, scallops, as well as vegetable—these were really flavorful, and enjoyed with the chili oil and soy sauce.

The prawn mash ginger garlic was a platter of jumbo prawns coated with finely minced fried garlic and topped with chopped red chili and spring onions and was almost creamy and buttery in taste.

A signature starter was crispy duck pancakes which were rolled and made for us at the table; crunchy duck, hoisin sauces and a smattering of cucumber imparted a medley of textures and flavors.

Along with egg fried rice, we enjoyed the aged beef black pepper sauce which was really tender and rich. Then the purely vegetarian Chinese green collards with ginger were fresh and healthy and had a nice bite to them as they were fully steamed just slightly. Szechwan prawns were huge, slightly sweet and spicy and went well with the rest of the mains and the rice we had tried.

Our desserts were also Chinese with one signature sweet treat in the form of chilled tapioca in coconut soup which was literally like a cold, sweet concoction of coconut milk with some tapioca at the bottom of the bowl. Our other dessert was a warm pan-fried red bean pastry that was crispy and not overly sweet, yet had just enough to satisfy even the fussiest eaters.
