Infuse Optimal Efficiency in Your Workspace

Let’s face it; with many companies becoming more flexible with regards to working from home, or what is often referred to as remote working in the professional; world. With that, lots of us are opting to create the perfect office right at home. But there are a few things to keep in mind while doing so, as follows…

  • Remote workspaces can increase productivity, but if the office is too casual, or isn’t effectively separated from the home environment, peak productivity may be lost. The key is to find a way to separate work and living space in order to minimize distractions and increase efficiency.
  • The first and most important investment is without a doubt a good ergonomic task chair. In the end, a desk is just a desk, but a task chair is a very sophisticated ergonomic tool that mimics the body’s joints and pivot points and must support your body as you move.
  • The second most important investment which people often overlook is the monitor arm and screen. A monitor arm helps position your screen at the correct viewing height and at the correct distance while sitting back in your chair. Without this, people end up hunching forward to view either their laptop or their screen which is usually pushed to the back of their desk which is bad for the back and posture.
  • Create a calm and tranquil environment with proper lighting and organization of your space. Set an inviting tone by minimizing overhead lighting and using side, controllable task lamps. This is important because monitors are best viewed in dimly-lit settings as they already emit light. The implementation of ‘dual-source’lighting will also lower your energy requirements. Keeping your desk clutter-free or at least organized will lead to an increase in efficiency and productivity.
  • Don’t be tempted to get comfortable on the sofa with your computer on your lap if you’ll be working for more than half of an hour. If you are truly working remotely, ensure you create a proper setting with a supportive chair, eye level surface for your screen, adequate lighting and don’t forget to take micro-breaks every hour to walk around and rest your eyes.
  • Finally, it is important to create a dedicated workspace so you can still ‘leave work’ at the end of the day – close your laptop and have real time for yourself. It is important to take that time to recharge.
