Is Stress Getting in the Way of a Good Night’s Sleep?

All of us have stress in our lives in some form; and with today’s career demands, long commutes, and even increased connectivity, it can take a toll on getting a good night’s rest. Read on to learn more about how you can eliminate stress and sleep soundly.

The Impact of Stress

According to Dr. Irshaad Ebrahim of The London Sleep Centre Dubai, sleep difficulties linked to stress include insomnia, and/ or staying asleep, and/or waking up too early. This is usually associated with poor quality sleep and daytime symptoms of tiredness and lethargy. “In fact, stress and sleep deprivation are so closely linked that it is never easy to detect whether stress caused you sleep deprivation or vice-versa,” he explains.

Tips for Better Sleep for Optimal Health

1.Keep worry and stress outside your bedroom.

2.Avoid heavy meals at night, drink sufficient amounts of water during the day, and eat your dinner a minimum of three hours before you intend to go to sleep.

3. Keep gadgets and technology out of the bedroom; never watch TV, make calls, or surf through the internet before your sleep schedule.

4.Establish a regular sleep-wake up time table and stick to it, no matter what the work urgency.

5.Exercise regularly, but avoid it too close to bed time.

6.Avoid taking naps to ensure good quality sleep at night.

7.Practice relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation before you sleep.

Remember, multiple wake-ups and inability to sleep are worrisome and can be tackled by managing your stress. Manage them now before stress starts managing your daily routines.
