Be Sustainable…Wear More Linen

Sustainability is the new luxury. Moving away from the world of fast fashion, consumers are becoming more clued up on what they should be investing in and linen is leading the way. Here’s why…
Natural
Unlike synthetic materials which are proven to damage the earth, linen is eco-friendly, durable, and long lasting. It is harvested from the flax plant, which is known to withstand insects and pests, therefore lessening the need for pesticides. It can also grow in poor quality soil and needs significantly less water than cotton, helping it claim its title as an eco-friendly resource.
No Waste
The flax plant itself can be used in many different products, with the stalk being the main part that is used in the linen trade. This means there is no waste, ensuring all of the resources used to grow the crops are generating more for less. Although the fabric is incredibly durable, it is important to note that linen is fully biodegradable. This means during its entire lifecycle it is friendly to the earth and only gets better with time.
Can Linen Be Stylish?
Considering the above, it is important to invest in classic silhouettes. With linen said to last for up to three decades, you want your linen piece to survive through these eras and become an investment which also keeps it an eco-friendly purchase rather than it becoming fast-fashion. Also stick with classic colors such as white because as trends come and go, the power of white as a staple in any wardrobe has and always will stand the test of time.
Ideal for Summer
Now with summer fast approaching, everyone will be looking to outfits that are stylish and cool… literally. Linen over the years has proven to be a much cooler fabric to wear (even more so than cotton) due to its high moisture absorptivity and light-weight feel, the absorption taking care of sweat and the softness of the fabric helping it to not stick to your skin therefore creating space between your body and the garment which adds a sort of ventilation. Anyone who has felt the heat of a Dubai summer or the humidity of a tropical jungle will agree that nothing can be considered trendier than feeling comfortable, by not having your clothes stick to you.
