Could Liposuction be a Short Cut to Weight Loss?

A lot of people looking for a weight loss solution have always wondered if liposuction could be a short cut to their goal weight. Plastic surgeon Dr. Luis M. Ayala* explains the connection between liposculpture (advanced liposuction technique) and weight loss, and how a person can use one to achieve the other.

Liposculpture and Weight Loss
This question of Lipo and weight loss can be answered with a yes or a no, because it all depends on the person looking to lose weight. First, the classic approach of Lipo-assisted weight loss is usually done in a manner where the person has to diet first before undergoing liposculpture. But in my case, I advise for liposculpture first then diet. Why? Because undergoing fat removal and body sculpting will change the metabolism, increase self-esteem, and finally motivate the patient to lose more weight after he/she sees the immediate changes to the body after the procedure.

Kilos Lost with Liposculpture
Every patient has different requirements, which means that some want overall fat removal, while others what spot fat removal. The fat removed can range anywhere from one liter or less to four or more liters of fat. In terms of kilos, since fat is lighter than water, some people think that by getting rid of four liters of fat they are going to lose four kilos. In reality, the total weight lost will be less than that, but the results will be big, because your silhouette will be contoured.

How the Procedure is done

  • Liposculptingis done under local anesthesia, meaning there’s no general anesthesia required.
  • Immediately after the procedure, the patient goes back home, and takes two days off to recover.
  • The patient then has to wear a compression garment for 30 days to help the patient feel comfortable and get better results.
  • After the initial two days of recovery, the patient starts a healthy and balanced diet.
  • Fivedays post procedure, the patient can start walking and using the treadmill.
  • Twoweeks after, he/she can start serious training to reach their goal weight, which can take anywhere fromfour months.
