Marasea…A Haven for Seafood Lovers

20170920_214038_previewWhen you step into Marasea restaurant at The Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort and Spa, you get the feeling that you are onboard a luxury ship, with thick ropes hanging from the ceilings behind the chairs and booths, the open air kitchen, and the multiple tanks with love crabs, fish, and a huge section with sherry fish, crab, lobster, black seabream, sea bass, red sea bass, live Boston lobster, grouper, and red snapper plus tiger prawns, clams, mussels, and calamari; cooked exactly as you like by the chef.

20170920_194525_previewAs we sipped the pineapple and ginger welcome drinks, our helpful server Bishnu explained that their homemade lemonades are their signature beverage. I tried berry while the kids had the apple; each served with a tiny pot of sugar syrup and very fresh and perfectly tart.

20170920_194829_previewNext, we had a delicious steaming hot bowl of Tom Yam soup brimming with fresh prawns and mushrooms in a delightfully fragrant coconut base with lemongrass.

20170920_200429_previewThis was followed by The Salmon Maki platter which was light and flavorful and devoured in minutes. This was followed by a sumptuous platter of soft fish cakes and crispy prawn cakes—which were my favorite– and vegetable spring rolls.

20170920_204016_previewThe main platter arrived and was a huge selection of every kind of seafood: Crab Thermidor, in a creamy cheesy sauce with mushrooms—which was comfort food at a higher level, grilled whole fish, jumbo prawns, and crisp fried calamari. The platter was served with lemon chili sauce, lemon butter, and a tempura sauce. This is meant to be shared and was so big that we were unable to eat it all. The jumbo prawns were the largest I had seen and very tender while the fish was soft and flavorful.

20170920_212435_previewTo end this delicious meal, we were offered sweet treats from the desserts trolley which Bishnu brought to the table. They had delicious matcha and coconut cupcakes, lemongrass baked yogurt, which was like a healthy version of cheesecake filling, 1000 layers pastry, and lemon tart with berry cream. All were delicious, light, and just big enough to indulge without the guilt.
