How Mild Ovarian Stimulation is Helping Couples to Conceive

Mild Ovarian Stimulation, also known as IVF Lite is a less invasive technique for women who are trying to conceive. HEALTH speaks with Dr. Gautam Allahbadia, IVF Consultant more about this revolutionary technique.
Defined
Mild Ovarian Stimulation is an advanced and simpler treatment protocol that can be used for specific patient groups, based on dynamics like age and previous IVF history or even based on personal preference, explains Dr. Allahbadia. He elaborates, “Mild ovarian stimulation is typically a technique of using softer stimulations to produce fewer but quality and chromosomally normal eggs. IVF Lite is a technique of mild ovarian stimulation which is less invasive for women.”
What It Entails
According to Dr. Allahbadia, this method of treatment uses oral medication and low dosage fertility injections, hence providing better tolerability for patients and consumes lesser time to complete the IVF cycle as compared to conventional IVF treatment.
How it Helps
Ovarian stimulation is an integral part of IVF treatments and for the longest time the belief was that the higher the stimulation, more the number of eggs produced, higher are the chances of pregnancy, tells Dr. Allahbadia. “It is only in the recent times that IVF lite as a technique has been used to treat women who have a poor ovarian reserve or are poor or hyper responders, women with previous failed IVF attempts and are over 38 years of age,” he says.
Success Rate
IVF lite, he points out, is most definitely an extremely successful technique and is gaining immense popularity now. “Each individual responds to each treatment differently, hence success rates depend on a lot of other factors like the age of the women, other medical factors, reason for infertility etc. which decide the method of treatment itself,” he says and IVF Lite is majorly preferred for its advantages of milder stimulations.
Ideal Candidate
Although women over a particular age have more success rates with IVF Lite, this does not rule out the possibility of younger people undergoing IVF Lite treatment. In today’s time and age, Dr. Alahbadia elaborates that women as young as 20 to 24 face fertility issues, they can also be given the IVF Lite treatment. He adds, “IVF Lite is also cost-effective and hence a better option for couples who opt for a moderately priced treatment method and is an extremely effective approach in treating poor responders and those who have a very less chance of conceiving their own genetic children.”
