Why You Need to Include a Serum in Your Skincare Routine

These days everyone is talking about serums—be it for anti-aging or brightening. But finding the right one and using it correctly is something many of us aren’t sure about. Maria Hatzistefanis, President and Founder of Rodial dishes the details on everything you need to know about serums.

Defined

A serum is a delivery system for active, powerful ingredients to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, explains Maria. “A serum should be used after cleansing, and before applying a moisturizer,” she says. “I like to use the Rodial Dragons Blood XXL serum as it helps to intensely hydrate and plump the skin, perfect for when I travel.”

The market is overflowing with serums. How can we figure out which serum to use? According to Maria, it is really important to be direct with what skincare concern you are trying to combat. “Are you looking for a serum to hydrate, exfoliate, or brighten the skin?” she asks, adding, “You need to be specific. The way that I have developed each Rodial range is to offer a target solution to each concern, so if you need to exfoliate and retexture the skin, you should use the Rodial Super Acid Serum, if you are more concerned about anti-ageing, then Bee Venom Serum would be the product for you.”

Application

Generally a serum should be applied after cleansing, but before applying moisturizer, advises Maria. “If you have oily skin, you may choose to skip using a moisturizer as the serum may offer enough hydration to the skin,” she tells.
