Sapori di BICE…A Taste of Tuscanny in Dubai

Satisfy your cravings for home-style Tuscan Italian food at Sapori di BICE, an expansive, award winning restaurant that has a warm and friendly ambiance very well suited for families.
We started with a basket of freshly baked breads and crackers served with olive tapenade and a labneh dip, which gave a nice Eastern touch. We also had several mocktails throughout our meal: the Fruit sangria with lots of fresh fruit, Virgin Mojito with fresh lime, mint, and soda, and Virgin Layers–fresh apple juice, mango, strawberry, and ginger ale.
A special thanks to Marcello Rivetti, the Executive Corporate Chef who was on hand to provide details about cooking style and his signature dishes. From the Italian Tapas, we had the Fritto di Calamari—the crisp fried calamari rings with zucchini and mushrooms served with a spicy tomato sauce that had none of the characteristic chewiness of calamari.
The Burrata e Bresaola salad was served with beef bresaola and was packed with flavor with the creaminess of the burrata.
A favorite of mine–Melanzane Parmigiana, or Eggplant Parmesan, was next level amazing; a perfect symphony of all the right flavors with hints of basil.
Our Mickey Mouse shaped pizza, carefully hand-crafted by my daughter, was loaded with tomato sauce, sliced pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, and lots of cheese. Afterwards, she added a handful of fresh basil leaves to infuse flavor to this authentic thin crust Italian pizza.
From the pasta, we tried my favorite Ravioli Massaia– ravioli stuffed with veal and beef in a mushroom creamy sauce which encapsulated comfort.
The Trofie al pesto de ligure—was traditional liguranan pasta served in a green sauce with potatoes and green beans, and had an interesting juxtaposition of textures, flavors, and a lovely green color.
The Rigatoni Norma, served with eggplant, spring onions, and a red basil tomato sauce, had strong Italian flavors through and through.
For our main, Marcello suggested his signature Ossobuco alla Milanese; a seriously delicious slow cooked veal dish with a thick, moreish sauce, served on a bed of saffron rice. This was one of the best veal dishes I have ever tried with meat made as tender as this; it was falling off the bone.
Desserts here can be shared: our humongous slice of packed with goodness carrot cake was topped with a cream cheese icing with just enough sweetness. The Malteser Cheesecake was richly divine and a sure way to kill your diet. And the best of all; our dose of chocolate arrived in the form of tiramisu. This ‘pick-me-up’ quintessential Italian dessert that had just the right balance of bitterness and creaminess and the perfect finale to a great meal.
The Verdict: Sapori di BICE has just the right elements of a perfect meal; a welcoming staff, delicious food, and a very family friendly ambiance.
