Taking Avocado Art to the Next Level

Like most of us, I am absolutely obsessed with avocados; so when I heard about avocado art being served in the form of super healthy dishes at Skye and Walker at the Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek, I was immediately intrigued.

An urban sustainable neighborhood eatery for discerning foodies, the ambiance here is modern and industrial, lending an Avant Garde vibe. Chef Hari Budhathoki explained that Skye and Walker used sustainable, local ingredients with a strong focus on international cuisine that wherever possible, is organic.

Skye and Walker doesn’t just create any avocado on toast, but a masterpiece almost too pretty to be eaten, just using the humble avocado and his artful carving skills. Chef Hari elaborated, β€œThe world of food has limitless possibilities where a simple avocado can be transformed into a beautiful piece of art. I found my avocado art creations the perfect way to showcase my passion for healthy and nutritious food that we at Skye and Walker create.”

pomegranate-juice_previewFrom their healthy beverages, we ordered fresh pomegranate lemonade and were served oven baked kale chips with a side of spices.

From the starters, Chef Hari suggested the avocado on toast with salmon, a best-seller that though is popular for breakfast, is ordered all-day long. This portion was enough for two of us and I loved the crunch of the 7- grain bread and smashed avocado in contrast with the smoked salmon, red onion, shaved radish and dill. He pointed out that these avocados were sourced from Australia and served immediately, to retain the fresh taste.

avocado-flower_previewWe also had a beautiful avocado platter shaped as a flower, garnished with rosemary sprigs, watercress leaves, cherry tomatoes, and balsamic vinegar. These dishes were enjoyed with steaming bowls of tomato and basil soup with feta.

pizza_preview Our mains included a homemade pizza which Chef Hari informed was fully made in-house, including the sauce. Ours was a chicken pizza that hinted at notes of basil and was light with a crispy crust.

lamb-kofta_previewThe lamb kofta, served with laban, baby spinach salad with cherry tomatoes on a bed of quinoa was loaded in flavor and was drizzled with pomegranate vinaigrette.

fresh-fruit_previewWhile here, Chef Hari revealed fresh fruit is the dessert of choice, Sky and Walker showcases some equally healthy desserts that are comforting as well as light.

apple-crumble_previewI tried the homemade apple crumble with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream and hints of cinnamon; the perfect winter dessert. This was enjoyed with the bowl of fresh fruit.

The Verdict: Skye and Walker not only do the most awesome creations with avocado, but serve up some of the most delicious, yet healthy food in town. Chef Hari has his finger on the pulse when it comes to healthy, sustainable dining, making this a must-try eatery in the heart of Dubai.
