Which Diet Works For You?

The diet industry is filled with big promises for weight loss with trending plans ranging from gluten-free to intermittent fasting to juice cleanses and the list goes on… Let’s find out which diet can work best.

Customized Diet Plans: Back to Basics

This is not a one-size-fits-all approach to dieting. It is by far the traditional and healthy way to lose fat weight. The meal plan is based on a ratio of 50 percent carbohydrates, 25 percent protein, and 25 percent fat. A nutritionist will help you determine your macro ratio based on your body type, medical case, and needs avoiding deprivation, you’re meant to be feeding your body ideal nutrition that makes it more efficient.

Everyone’s genetic makeup is different but when macros are customized, one can lose between 2 percent and 5 percent body fat per month equivalent to 10 pounds.

Detox

Involves drinking vegetable and fruit juice for a period of time in order to lose body fat and “cleanse” the body ‘it also eliminates essential food ingredients such as lean meats, dairy and grains and proteins the building blocks of our body.

This might help you to drop weight quickly leading to muscle breakdown mineral imbalance and a shortage of many essential nutrients, and as soon as you resume to normal eating, the weight will pile back again.

Because the crash diets can upset blood sugar, potassium and sodium levels in the body, people with diabetes, heart or kidney disease or women who are pregnant or nursing shouldn’t try them. It is recommended to eat fruits as a whole, or incorporate healthy controlled juices as part of a well-balanced diet or pre workout.

Intermittent fasting

Some Studies show that intermittent fasting can be a very powerful weight loss tool. In 2014, it was shown to cause weight loss of 3 to 8 percent over periods of 3 to 24 weeks. Common intermittent fasting methods involve daily 16 hour fasts, or fasting for 24 hours, twice per week.  It may reduce LDL cholesterol, blood triglycerides, blood sugar and insulin resistance but further studies are being made in this field.

It is crucial to consult a doctor or dietician especially for those with medical cases before trying any diet, unmonitored eating habits may have detrimental effects on the health and lead to malnutrition and often to dizziness and serious side effects.
