Why All of Us Need to Chill Out Sometimes

While Dubai is the ultimate work hard play hard city, lots of us are forgetting the play part and instead, keep on working as hard as we possibly can until either we get ill or suffer from burn out.

The race

According to Nic Woodthorpe Wright, Executive Coach and Managing Director of Woodthorpe Wright Associates, the prevalent attitude nowadays is to be as busy as possible with nearly every hour and minute crammed with must-do details. That is considered progress and success. “The problem is that we all believe that the most useful aspect of our day is in the ‘doing’, or ‘how much can I get done’ or ‘how can I earn the most money’ or ‘how can I impress those around me,” he tells, “there seems to be no place in that space for seeking or even thinking about what you really need, only doing what everyone else is doing, essentially running at breakneck speed for as long as you possibly can.”

Health implications

Various health problems often occur from not taking time to chill out; one is high stress levels leading to reduced effectiveness and reduced energy/focus. Another problem is an inability to know how to switch off, even when they really want to and also an inability to see the bigger picture and think strategically meaning they get drawn more and more into ineffective details losing sight of what is really important or what really matters. These people get a rude awakening at a late point in life when the big picture finally catches up with them.

Lifestyle changes

The change that needs to precede any lifestyle changes is the perspective change of why ‘chill out’ is important to you as an individual. From there, any expert coach would help you to design lifestyle changes that made sense to you and supported your goal as an individual.
