Mama Fu’s Asian House in Dubai Festival City Ticks All the Right Boxes for Family Style Asian Food

Located in a prominent area of Dubai Festival City, Mama Fu’s is a well-known eatery from the US that not only serves wholesome Chinese comfort food, but even Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese dishes. The menu is endless with flexi-options to customize the dishes according to your preferred spice, protein choice, and the choice between rice or noodles. It’s a good sized space with booths large enough for family gatherings and emanates a casual, friendly vibe.

To start, we tried the Dynamite Shrimp—with spicy shrimp enveloped with a creamy sauce. The calamari rings, also a hit with us, came with a special dynamite dipping sauce that gave it a zing. But the star of our appetizers was the crab rangoons—a dish I had never tried before and one that has me hooked for life—crispy wonton encasing a blend of creamy crab with cream cheese, onions and scallions accompanied by a sweet chili dipping sauce.

The Tom Yam soup was another highlight for us with a spicy, heady broth and a good level of spice to give a nice kick. For the dim sums, we tried the platter which included chicken buns stuffed with barbeque chicken, chicken dim sum, prawn, and also vegetable. The platter is great for families who want to try a bit of everything in one go.

For the mains, we opted to each order our own though the portion sizes are large so the dishes were shared. The teriyaki chicken with rice was tender and succulent, with just enough spice. We also liked the Mongolian beef served with a spicy garlicky soy sauce, onions and mushrooms, also with the rice. For a taste of Thailand, we tried the Thai Fire Red Curry chicken; a red hot coconut curry based dish, simmered with lemongrass, onion, bok choy, carrots, and bean sprouts. And for a change, we also tucked into fried rice shrimp which was really satisfying with rice wok-cooked with broccoli, scallions, carrots, egg, and bean sprouts with shrimp.

And yes, Mama Fu’s does some really yummy desserts too—we tucked into Mason jar brownie ice cream, a decadent serving of homemade chocolate brownies served with vanilla ice cream, stacked tall in a mason jar and topped with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. The banana bites were crispy wonton stuffed with warmed banana served with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. But our unanimous favorite of these was the dark chocolate cake—a huge slab of dense chocolate cake with a chocolate filling and finished with a dark chocolate ganache and served with whipped cream.

The Verdict: Mama Fu’s is tasty Asian comfort food in a really relaxed and casual ambiance. The service is quick and friendly and the servings are huge so you can try a bit of everything.
