The Meat Co. Launches its Brunch

The Meat Co. at Souk Al Bahar (Downtown Dubai) recently renovated its space and also has added more themed nights to its venue. Playing on its African heritage, The Meat Co.’s cutting-edge design and unique decor are underpinned by a play of textures and colors to imbibe an understated, yet distinctive ambiance for diners. When we arrived, it was buzzing with a live DJ playing eighties tunes. There was an open kitchen and one side, cold starters were the only self-serve part of this served to the table brunch.

We helped ourselves to fresh oysters and one of my favorites; Tuna Tartare—big eye tuna, chili, lime, and soy, served atop a crispy cracker. There was a server preparing Wagyu Bresaola with goat’s cheese mousse, beetroot, and crumbled walnut, on a bright pink tiny macaroon. There was also quinoa salad on offer. At the table we were served a fresh-from-the-oven loaf of chocolate and beetroot bread served with accompanying butter, olive oil, and balsamic vinaigrette.

At the table, our server was on hand to explain that the hot starters would be selected by the chef and served to us at the table as well as our selections of the mains. The hot salt and pepper calamari—scored calamari with a five spiced with Yuzu mayo and buttered sapphire was really satisfying with a nice crunch. We also indulged in Beef Boerewors with African spices, polenta chips, and peas shoot. The Meat Co. also prides itself on crafting some great looking and tasting mocktails; we tried the Popsi Colada—a unique twist to pina colada which had a popsicle in the middle of the glass. Also the Going Bananas; a dreamy creamy banana based mocktail was served in a really innovative style using a banana leaf.

For our mains, we selected Duo of Chicken which was seared chicken Maryland and breast with broad beans cassolette and bacon snow peas, served with Paris Mash and chicken jus. The chicken was succulent throughout and very light. The kids had the American Prime Rib-Eye with truffle fries which they both enjoyed, cooked as they liked.

The dessert was the Chef’s special—a refreshing iced platter of selected fruits—Dragon fruit, rambutin, mangosteen, plus tiny bowls of chocolate ice-cream, chocolate bomb, and yogurt cake.

The Verdict: A brunch that serves high-quality food in a really fun setting, The Meat Co. is a fun and happening place to visit with super friendly staff and great views of Downtown Dubai.
